WaterGuard Piping Saves Orland, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner living in Orland, ME had been having trouble with water leaking in through their concrete foundation. This water would gather in puddles on the floor. This was a problem for the homeowner because this water could easily lead to mold growth or water damage to the property. To have the problem solved, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
As soon as our installation team arrived at the home they began work on the basement. To protect this concrete foundation from leaking water, we needed to place a barrier within it. We excavated a shallow trench in the surface of the floor to do just that. We laid WaterGuard piping down within the trench. This piping will capture the water leaking in through the tiny pores of the concrete before it can reach the surface. The WaterGuard was then buried beneath the floor with a fresh layer of concrete. The water trapped within the WaterGuard is guided to the sump for removal.
To handle the water-removal we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device houses three pumps within itself. The first takes on the bulk of the water. The secondary pump is a backup pump for the primary, taking over if the primary fails or can’t keep up with the amount of water. This also enable the primary to be repaired without any downtime in the pumping. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This pump takes over when the home loses power to keep the basement dry in any weather.
The water being pumped out of the home leaves through a PVC discharge line. Attached to this line just as it exits the home is an IceGuard piping section. This piece of pipe has special holes built into its sides which allow for water trapped by ice or other debris to escape through. This protects the sump pump from an overflow due to a clog in the pipe. Finally, the water exits the line through a LawnScape discharge port. Here it drains away harmlessly into the ground.
With their new basement system in place this homeowner will no longer experience a water problem beneath their home. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
