Crawlspace Beneath Cape Neddick, ME Home Protected With Vapor Barrier
Challenge
A homeowner in Cape Neddick, ME had a crawlspace beneath their home which would typically be moist. The dirt surroundings gave no resistance to incoming moisture from rain or melting snow. This moisture could develop into serious problems for the homeowner. Wanting to avoid any unpleasant after effects of the moisture, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems. Our industry leading team could protect this space from any moisture related problems.
Solution
Once our installation team arrived at the home, they began work on the waterproofing of this crawlspace. In order to keep moisture out in the future, we needed to put a proper vapor barrier in place. We began this process by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat sits just off the surface of the floor. It helps hold moisture beneath itself while allowing this moisture to drain away through the sump in the floor. Over the top of this we encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner will seal moisture out, keeping the interior of this crawlspace free from future leaks.
With the outside moisture kept out, all that was left was to deal with the moisture already present in the atmosphere of the crawlspace. This airborne moisture could still enable mold growth within the space. We installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to handle this moisture. The SaniDry will take in the surrounding air, remove the moisture from it and circulate it back into the crawlspace. The separated moisture is deposited into the sump where it exits the crawlspace. Now the interior of this crawlspace will remain perfectly dry.
Now that this homeowner has had their crawlspace professionally waterproofed they will no longer need to fear any form of moisture problems to take root beneath their home. The vapor barrier in place will keep the leaking water out from now on.
