WaterGuard Piping Saves Hallowell, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner in Hallowell, ME had a concrete foundation beneath their home. This foundation, however, did not completely lock out moisture. Rainwater was still able to leak into the basement through the tiny pores within the concrete. To have this leakage stopped before it developed into any form of water damage, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away. To stop the water from leaking in through the foundation, we needed to put a barrier down within the floor. To do this, we dug a trench into the perimeter of the foundation, laying WaterGuard piping down inside. The pipes were then covered over with a fresh layer of concrete. This sealed the pipes within the floor where they will capture the incoming moisture from now on. The WaterGuard then guides this trapped water to the sump for removal.
With the WaterGuard in place, the inflow of water to the sump might be more than this basements’ sump can handle. To keep up, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To help protect the sump against clogs in the pipe, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to the discharge line outside the home. The IceGuard has special holes built into the sides which, once a clog forms, allows for the trapped water to escape before overflowing the sump.
With these new upgrades in their basement, this homeowner will no longer experience a wet basement floor. The WaterGuard piping & SuperSump sump pump will ensure this basement will stay dry for many years to come!
