WaterGuard Piping Keeps Mexico, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A homeowner of Mexico, ME had been having trouble with all the rain falling down around their home lately. It had been coming back up into their home through the basement and crawlspace. Even with a concrete foundation and sump in place, water would still find itself spread the homeowner floor. Wanting their home fully protected from flooding, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
When our installation team arrived at the home, they began work first on the crawlspace below the home. This space had a dirt floor, an easy target for rainwater. To prevent future flooding of this space, we needed to put a vapor barrier in place. We encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This thin plastic sheet covers the walls and floor of the space, completely locking out any inbound moisture. No more water will be able to leak into this space in the future.
Moving over to the basement, our crew needed a way to direct all of the incoming moisture to the sump. To do this, the water would be captured before ever reaching the surface of the floor. A shallow trench was dug into the perimeter of the concrete floor. WaterGuard piping was then laid down within this trench, being covered over with a fresh layer of concrete. Sealed beneath the surface, the WaterGuard traps water leaking in through the tiny pores of the concrete. The water then follows the WaterGuard to the sump for removal from the home.
Now this homeowner can sit through a rainstorm without knowing they will soon find that water beneath their home. With the WaterGuard piping installed, the water will be swept away before ever reaching the interior of this home.
