New Thomaston, ME Basement Protected By WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner in Thomaston, ME owned a basement with a dirt foundation. This foundation was prone to moisture leaks, which the homeowner wanted stopped. They also wanted to finish the space and turn it into a usable room. To get this job accomplished, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work immediately by pouring in a fresh concrete slab to give the basement a proper floor. While pouring this flooring, a WaterGuard piping system was integrated into the floor before it was completed. These pipes sit beneath the surface of the floor and protect against moisture leaking through the pores in the concrete. The WaterGuard will capture this moisture and guide it to the sump we created in the new slab.
To help the sump handle the entirety of the water collected by the WaterGuard, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will force the water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water per hour. To assist in the water-collection and to give the walls a finished look, we installed BrightWall panels around the basement. These panels sit tight to the walls, collecting any moisture leaking through on their back sides, guiding it down into the WaterGuard piping below for removal.
Outside the home, our installation crew made two final additions to the discharge line before they were done. The end of the line received a LawnScape discharge port where the water exits onto the lawn. This far from the home the water will no longer be able to cause problems for the homeowner. We also attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line right where it exits the home. This piece prevents an overflow in the pump by allowing for any blocked water to escape through holes in its sides.
With their new and improved basement, this homeowner can now utilize the space for whatever they please. The WaterGuard piping will ensure their new basement floor remains dry for years to come!
