WaterGuard Piping System Protects Carmel, ME Basement

Challenge

With a dirt foundation beneath their home, a homeowner in Carmel, ME wanted to use the space for more. Before they could do that, they needed to waterproof the space. To do this, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems and our expert team was on the job.

Solution

Once our crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin work on the basement by pouring down a concrete slab across the floor. This would turn the space into a functional basement. To waterproof this space, we installed WaterGuard piping beneath the floor before it was done being poured. These pipes run around the outer edge of the concrete, beneath the surface. The WaterGuard will work beneath the floor to capture incoming moisture leaking through the pores of the concrete.

The water trapped within the WaterGuard is guided through the floor to the sump for removal. To handle this removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump take the water and forces it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. This will keep any rainstorm at bay, maintaining a dry basement floor. No water will ever make it to the surface of this new basement floor.

Following the PVC discharge line outside, our crew made two final additions to the line before they were done. The first of these additions was an IceGuard segment added to the line just where it exits the home. The IceGuard has holes built into its sides which protect the sump from an overflow. Now if any ice or debris blocks the piping the blocked water will escape through the holes. Passed this, on the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point where the water finally exits and drain away into the ground.

With their new basement floor and basement waterproofing system in place, this homeowner can not only utilize their basement for more now, but it will remain water-free for the future. The WaterGuard piping will keep water from ever even reaching the surface of this basement floor.
