Basement Waterproofing Protects Milford, ME from Outside Moisture
Challenge
A struggling homeowner in Milford, ME was having trouble with the moisture in their basement. With a dirt foundation beneath the home, there wasn’t much keeping the water out. Looking to have the space waterproofed to finish the basement, the homeowner needed the professionals. They called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we were on the job!
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home they began work right away pouring a fresh concrete slab. During this process, we also installed a piping system beneath the surface of the floor known as WaterGuard. Because concrete is not fully waterproof, the WaterGuard is put in place to act as a barrier. Now when moisture leaks in through the pores of the concrete, the WaterGuard will trap this moisture. The trapped moisture is then guided through the pipes to the sump we created in the new slab.
Within the sump, to take care of the water being collected through the WaterGuard, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This will take in the water, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. To protect the SuperSump from power outages, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to it. The UltraSump holds enough of a charge to allow the SuperSump to continue to operate for up to 11,000 gallons of water pumping. Even when the home is without power, this sump system will continue to remove water.
Finally, we moved outside to make two additions to the discharge line. The first of these additions was the IceGuard pipe segment attached just as the discharge line leaves the home. This pipe piece has angled holes built into the side of it which do not affect normal water flow. The holes only allow water to escape if the water is being blocked by some form of debris, such as ice. This protects the sump from an overflow. The water then exits the line through a LawnScape discharge point on the end, where it drains into the ground safely away from the home.
With these new additions to their basement, this homeowner can expect a dry and healthy basement for the future. With the WaterGuard in place, they will never need to worry about any more moisture leaking in.
