Alfred, ME Basement Kept Dry With SuperSump Upgrade
Challenge
A couple in Alfred, ME had been struggling to keep their basement dry for a few months now. With a sump in the floor, the water did have a way to exit, however, the sump would occasionally backup and flood the basement floor. Tired of this, they sought ways to remedy the problem. To have the space properly waterproofed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
With a sump already in the floor of this basement, once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home all that was needed was to upgrade the existing sump with a pump. We installed a SuperSump sump pump to handle the water-removal within this basement from now on. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump is still susceptible to power outages, however. To combat this, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump. This will give the SuperSump an 11,000 gallons lifespan if the home ever loses power during a rainstorm.
Outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line before we were done with this home. The first addition was an IceGuard attachment added just as the line left the home. The IceGuard has special holes built into its sides which enable trapped water to escape in the event of an ice blockage. This protects the sump from an overflow if anything does block the line. Finally, on the end of the line, we attached a LawnScape discharge point where the water flows onto the ground and drains away into the earth a safe distance from the home.
With their newly upgraded sump, these Alfred, ME homeowners can now expect to have a dry basement. The SuperSump & UltraSump combination is sure to maintain a dry basement in this home for many years to come!
