WaterGuard Piping Keeps Orrington, ME Basement Moisture-Free
Challenge
A struggling Orrington, ME homeowner had been trying to keep their basement water free. Digging a sump just wasn’t enough, so this homeowner searched online for a solution. They soon found what they were looking for and gave TC Hafford Basement Systems a call.
Solution
We sent out our crew and got to work on the home right away. To remedy the leaky situation this homeowner was having with their concrete basement floor, we needed to install a barrier. A shallow trench was soon dug into the perimeter of the basement floor to help achieve just that. We laid WaterGuard piping down within this trench, pouring a fresh layer of concrete to seal the pipes inside the floor. Once inside, the pipes will capture any moisture leaking in through the pores of the concrete, preventing the water from reaching the surface altogether. This trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To help this basements’ sump keep up with the increased concentration of water coming from the WaterGuard, we upgraded the sump with a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump can move up to 2,600 gallons of water every hour. This water is pushed up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. To maintain a constant flow of water leaving the home, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to the SuperSump. This device will give the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of pumping life before requiring a recharge. This will keep the home safe during any power outages.
Following the discharge line outside, we made two final additions before this basements’ waterproofing was complete. The first attachment was an IceGuard pipe segment added just as the line leaves the home. The IceGuard has special holes built into its sides which allow for trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the basement in the event of a blockage in the discharge line. On the end of the line we attached a LawnScape discharge port. This is where the water drains safely into the ground a distance from the home.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about keeping their basement dry. The SuperSump & UltraSump combination will easily take on any possible leaks, maintaining a dry basement.
