North Yarmouth, ME Basement Receives WaterGuard Upgrade
Challenge
This North Yarmouth, ME homeowner had been living for some time with a damp basement floor. At times, the water would even gather into pools on the concrete surface. Tired of living with these conditions, the homeowner thought it was time they put their foot down. They soon called TC Hafford Basement Systems and arranged to have the space waterproofed.
Solution
As soon as the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home they got right to work on the basement floor. Because the moisture had been leaking in through the natural pores of the concrete, the crew needed to put a barrier in place. They began by digging a trench into the outer edge of the concrete floor. They then laid WaterGuard piping down within this trench. After being buried beneath a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard pipes will capture any leaking moisture from now on. The trapped water is then guided through the WaterGuard piping to the sump where it will be removed from the home.
To enable an automated water-removal system, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the basement floor. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This pump will force any water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. On the exterior of the home, we made two final additions starting with an IceGuard pipe segment. The IceGuard protects the home against an overflow in the sump due to any blockages in the line. It does this with special holes built into its sides. The water will exit the line at the end through a LawnScape discharge point. Here, the water drains harmlessly away into the earth.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to put up with a damp basement. This basement will now remain perfectly dry with none of the would be leaks ever reaching the surface of the floor.
