New Sump System Saves Flooding Casco, ME Basement
Challenge
A Casco, ME homeowner was living with a damp basement. Without a water-removal system in place, any water leaking in would gather across the basement floor. Tired of this almost-constantly wet basement, the homeowner finally did something about it. To have the space waterproofed, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home they began work right away on the basement. First, to give the water a way out of the basement, we installed a SmartSump sump pump. We also installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device will maintain a dry atmosphere within this basement, while handing any collected water to the sump for removal. To keep the sump operational at all times, we attached an UltraSump backup battery to do just that. The UltraSump will enable the SmartSump to remove up to 11,000 gallons of water following a power outage in the home.
Any water exiting the home through the sump follows a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water away from the home where it exits onto the ground through a LawnScape discharge point. The water here is no longer able to reach the home should it leak back in that direction. Right where this line leaves the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece to protect the sump from an overflow. It does this using special holes in its sides which do not affect normal water flow. The holes only allow water out when ice or other debris is blocking the line.
With these new additions to their basement, this homeowner will no longer need to suffer with a flooding basement. Their now-dry basement can be utilized for whatever purposes the homeowner might have for it!
