Leaking Durham, ME Basement Sealed With FlexiSpan
Challenge
A homeowner in Durham, ME had been living with a leaking basement for several months. Deciding it was high time they did something about the cracks, the homeowner had no idea where to start. Wanting the cracks sealed properly on the first attempt, the homeowner called the professionals, TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived, they looked over the cracks and began work on the more difficult one first. This crack ran behind several beams running along one wall. To seal this crack, we began by brushing any debris clear with a coarse brush. Then, a preliminary layer of sealant was applied over the crack with plugs added every few inches. Once dried in place, the plugs were sequentially opened, and a Polyurethane Injection was sprayed in. Sealing each plug after the injections, the Polyurethane spreads throughout the crack, filling it entirely and drying in place to completely seal out any future moisture that might have leaked in.
Moving to the other crack, we used a three-step process known as FlexiSpan. Before we started, the crack was again brushed clear using a coarse brush. Once prepared, an initial layer of sealant was applied inside the crack. Over the top of this, a foam matting was laid to give the structure the flexibility the name suggests. Finally, a second layer of sealant was applied over the top of the mat, completing the FlexiSpan. Once dry, the FlexiSpan will not only hold out any moisture, but it will also be able to conform to any slight shifting in the crack shape due to wall shifting.
With their cracks sealed, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about a leaking basement. The FlexiSpan & Polyurethane Injection will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
