Moisture in Both Basement & Crawl Space in Monmouth, ME Home
Challenge
A homeowner in Monmouth, ME had been living with damp conditions beneath their home for quite some time. The crawlspace and basement beneath this home both would regularly take on moisture from the surrounding soil. Unsure how to handle all of this moisture on their own, the homeowner needed professional help. To get the job done right, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems!
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they first got to work on the crawlspace. To waterproof this space, a vapor barrier was needed to prevent outside moisture from leaking in. Achieving this, our crew encapsulated the crawlspace with a CleanSpace liner. This liner is made of a thin plastic which tightly covers all of the walls, as well as the floor of the space. Now any moisture coming in from the surrounding soil will be blocked by this barrier. The space is completely sealed off from outside moisture.
Moving on to the basement, leakage onto the basement floor needed to be addressed. With water collecting on the basement floor, we needed to create a way for this water to escape. To do so, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour, which it will force up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Following this line outside, we made one final addition to the line. An IceGuard pipe segment was added just outside the home where special holes will allow for any trapped water to escape. This protects the SuperSump from an overflow if ice or other debris blocks the line.
With these new additions to their home, this homeowner will no longer suffer from damp conditions. The spaces beneath this home will remain dry for many years to come!
