TripleSafe Upgrade Protects Pittsfield, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Pittsfield, ME had been struggling with their current sump pump. It occasionally wouldn’t be able to keep up with the water gathering on their basement floor, causing water to build up across the floor. This was a major problem for the homeowner. To solve this issue, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work by removing the old sump to replace it. We then installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the basement floor. The TripleSafe contains three pumps, each serving a purpose. The primary pump handles the bulk of the water, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The secondary pump takes over for the primary if it either can’t handle the amount of water or fails for any reason. This could enable the primary to be repaired without any downtime. The third pump is battery-powered and will take over the pumping if the home loses power. This will keep the basement dry even in storms harsh enough to knock out the power in the home.
Following the discharge line outside, we made two final additions before we were done. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment added just as the line exits the home. This section of piping has special holes built into its sides. These holes, while not affecting normal water flow, will allow for trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if ice or other debris blocks the line. Finally, on the end of the line we attached a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With their new sump upgrade in place, this homeowner will no longer need to live with a damp or flooding basement. The TripleSafe will ensure a dry basement for this home year-round.
