WaterGuard Piping Saves Hollis Center, ME Basement From Leakage
Challenge
A homeowner in Hollis Center, ME had a concrete foundation surrounding their basement. Unfortunately for this homeowner, water was still leaking in through the pores in the concrete. To have this problem solved, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
As soon as the TC Hafford Installation crew arrived at the home they began fixing the problem in the basement. To prevent moisture from entering through the pores we needed to place a barrier between the surrounding soil and the inside of the basement. We dug a trench around the perimeter of the basement and laid WaterGuard piping down within this trench. Sealed under a fresh layer of concrete, the WaterGuard will capture any moisture leaking into the basement from now on.
This water trapped within the WaterGuard is guided to the sump for removal. To take on this role we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This pump will force the water out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This device contains three separate pumps. The first pump takes on the bulk of the water while the secondary takes over for the primary if it fails for any reason. The third and final pump is battery-operated and keeps the basement water-free in the event of a power outage.
Following the discharge line outside, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line. This piece has special holes built into its sides which allow for trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if ice or other debris blocks the line. On the end of the line we attached a LawnScape discharge point where the water exits onto the ground. This far from the home, the water will no longer be able to cause problems for the homeowner.
With these new products installed, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about a flooding basement. The WaterGuard piping will maintain a dry basement here for many years to come!
