Leaking Jay, ME Basement Sealed and Dried with FlexiSpan & SaniDry XP
Challenge
A couple in Jay, ME had been experiencing difficulties with an eight-foot crack running along one of their basement walls. This leakage was causing moisture to build up in the atmosphere of the space. This created a very damp environment within the basement, which was a risk for mold growth. To put an end to this leakage, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford crew arrived at the home, they moved straight to the basement to begin work on this crack. To deal with this lengthy crack, we used FlexiSpan. Installing FlexiSpan is a three-step process, starting with a layer of sealant applied into the crack. A foam matting was then laid over the top of this sealant, giving the FlexiSpan its flexibility. Finally, a second layer of sealant was laid over the top of this structure, sealing everything in place, with room to bend should the crack shift. The FlexiSpan will hold out moisture while maintaining enough flexibility to adapt to changes in the crack.
With all of the moisture built up in the atmosphere of the basement, the homeowners still needed a way to dry out the space. Their sump could handle water on the floor, but this water was airborne. To take care of this problem, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the surrounding air, pulling the moisture from it and passing the separated water to the sump for removal. The dried air is then pumped back into the basement where it circulated more moist air back to the SaniDry. This process continues until the basement is completely dry and healthy.
With the FlexiSpan sealing out moisture and the SaniDry maintaining a dry atmosphere, this basement will no longer be a damp mold risk. These homeowners can rest assured their basement will stay dry for many years to come!
