WaterGuard Piping Saves Gardiner, ME Basement
Challenge
A homeowner in Gardiner, ME owned a basement surrounded by a concrete foundation. This foundation, however, was still allowing outside moisture to leak in through the pores making up the concrete. Unsure how to prevent this leakage, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work right away excavating the perimeter of the basement floor. To prevent further leakage, we needed to place a barrier in between the surrounding soil and the interior of the basement. To achieve this, a shallow trench was dug into the outside perimeter of this floor. Within this trench, a WaterGuard piping system was placed, covered over with a fresh layer of concrete to seal it within the floor. The WaterGuard pipes will now capture any water passing through this foundation towards the basement interior.
The water trapped within the piping follows the perimeter until it reaches the sump within the basement floor. Increasing the power of the water-removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump within this basement sump. The SuperSump can handle upwards of 2,600 gallons of water every hour. This force will be more than enough to take on any amount of water trying to leak in through this basement foundation. The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line, where it is deposited away from the home onto the ground.
This new basement system will now automatically handle the water capturing and removal necessary to maintain a dry basement. This homeowner will never again need to worry about keeping their basement free of water.
