WaterGuard Piping Prevents Flooding in Houlton, ME Basement
Challenge
A homeowner in Houlton, ME owned a dirt basement which would always seem to be damp or flooded. These conditions were causing a smell to propagate throughout the home. Tired of this smell, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our installation crew arrived at the home, they began work right away on the basement. To turn the basement into a usable space, we needed to pour a concrete slab across the floor. Before this was poured, the dirt floor was graded to flatten out the surface. This also removed any debris in the way which would have interfered with the pour. Once the grading was done, the concrete floor was poured and dried to create a flat, lever surface for the homeowner to utilize.
While this was being poured, a WaterGuard piping system was installed inside the floor around the outer perimeter. Due to the porous nature of concrete, these pipes will protect the basement from any water that would leak in through the new slab. The collected water is transported through the pipes to the sump where it leaves the home. To help the WaterGuard collect any water that might leak in through the walls, we installed BrightWall wall-panels around the basement. These plastic panels will now brighten up the basement, while channeling any water from the outside down into the WaterGuard for removal.
With these new installations in place, this homeowner can now utilize their now-dry basement without needing to worry about any water damage. The musty smell is now a thing of the past thanks to the WaterGuard piping!
