Wolfeboro, NH Basement Protected from Leaks with WaterGuard

Challenge

A homeowner in Wolfeboro, NH had a concrete foundation beneath their home. Rainwater was still leaking in through this foundation. Unable to stop the water from entering the space, this homeowner needed the professionals. They soon called TC Hafford Basement Systems and we got to work.

Solution

Once the TC Hafford crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin work on the basement right away. Due to the porous nature of concrete, water can still slip through over time. To prevent this, we needed to place a barrier in the floor to stop the water. We first dug a trench into the perimeter of the basement floor, within this trench we laid 180 feet of WaterGuard piping. These pipes will capture the intrusive water and keep it from reaching the surface of the floor. The WaterGuard was then buried beneath a fresh layer of cement to seal it within the floor.

With the WaterGuard in place and feeding water into the sump, this basement was going to need an upgrade to keep up with all this new collected water. To handle this, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump in the floor. The TripleSafe consists of three separate pumps, each serving a role. The primary pump handles the bulk of the water, while the secondary only activates when the primary fails to handle all of the water for any reason. This helps if the primary requires repairs, allowing for the repairs to be made without allowing water to flood the basement. The third and final pump is a battery backup which keeps the basement water-free even when the home is without power.

All of the water collected in the TripleSafe is forced out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water away from the before releasing it through a LawnScape discharge point. To protect the TripleSafe from backing up and overflowing, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line. This pipe piece has holes built into it which do not affect normal water flow leaving the home. The holes will, however, allow for any water blocked by ice or debris to escape before reaching the sump.

With their new basement system in place, this homeowner now has a handle on their previously wet basement. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping this basement floor should remain dry for many years to come!
