WaterGuard Protects Belfast, ME Basement From Moisture

Challenge

A couple in Belfast, ME had been having moisture troubles in their home. Water had been leaking into both their basement and crawlspace, causing a musty smell to emanate throughout the home. To have these two spaces waterproofed and the smell eliminated, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they first began work on the basement. The started by digging a trench into the perimeter of the floor surface. They did this to installed WaterGuard piping beneath the floor. These pipes, buried beneath a fresh layer of cement, will capture any moisture leaking in through the pores of the concrete. This trapped water is transported through the piping to the sump where it is removed from the basement.

Moving on to the crawlspace, the crew then needed to install a proper vapor barrier to hold out moisture. To achieve this, they encapsulated the space with a CleanSpace liner. This liner is composed of a thing plastic sheet, which covers all of the walls, as well as the floor. With the CleanSpace in place, any moisture that would have leaked in will now remain sealed outside. We then installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier in the space to maintain a dry atmosphere as well. The SaniDry will take in the moist air, pulling the moisture out and circulating the dried air back into the space. The removed water is then passed on to the sump where it exits the home.

With their new basement system in place and a proper vapor barrier locking out moisture, this Belfast, ME couple will no longer need to worry about moisture or deal with a nasty smell. The WaterGuard piping & CleanSpace liner will ensure this home remains dry for many years to come!
