New Sump System Saves Farmington, NH Basement From Flooding

Challenge

A homeowner of Farmington, NH had a problem. Even though they had a concrete foundation around their basement, the space was still taking on water. Concrete is naturally porous, and the homeowner had no way to stop the water from leaking in through these tiny holes. To get the job done, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Once the TC Hafford crew arrived on the scene, they were able to begin work on the basement right away. To keep the moisture from reaching the inside of the basement, we needed to place a barrier down between the outside and the inside. We began by digging a shallow trench into the perimeter of the basement floor. Next, 116 feet of WaterGuard piping was laid down within this trench, encircling the basement. The WaterGuard was buried beneath the surface with a layer of fresh cement. Now any time water tries to enter the basement through this floor, the water will be absorbed into the WaterGuard.

This now-trapped water is guided through the piping to the sump. Because there was no pump installed in this home, our crew installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device contains three pumps, each serving a purpose. The primary pump handles the bulk of the water. The secondary pump takes over for the primary if it fails for any reason, allowing for repairs to be made without down-time. The third and final pump is a battery backup pump which keeps the basement free of water even when the home is without power.

The water exits the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water away from the home where it is released through a LawnScape discharge point. The water exiting here will no longer be able to cause the homeowner any trouble. To protect the sump from an overflow, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line. This special pipe piece has holes built into itself which allow for any blocked water to escape through.

Now that this homeowner has a proper basement system in place, they no longer need to worry about keeping water out of their basement. Thanks to the WaterGuard pipes, this basement shouldn’t have a moisture problem again!
