WaterGuard Piping Saves Berwick, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A flooding basement in Berwick, ME was causing problems for the owner of the home. The water was coming in directly through their concrete foundation. Unable to deal with this moisture on their own, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the problem dealt with.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they began work right away by excavating a small trench into the outer perimeter of the basement floor. The trench was then filled with a WaterGuard piping system, as well as a layer of fresh cement to conceal the piping beneath the surface. The WaterGuard acts within the floor, to capture the water as it travels inward. This water is now captured in the piping, as opposed to leaking onto the basement floor surface. The water is then guided through the pipes to the sump for removal.
Without a sump pump, this basement was susceptible to overflows in the sump should too much water gather in the sump. To prevent such an overflow, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor, taking in the water from the WaterGuard. The SuperSump is able to move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour, giving it plenty of strength to keep this basement free of water. To help the SuperSump maintain a constant flow of water, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This battery will give the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of water removal before requiring a charge.
With this new basement system in place, this homeowner will never again need to worry about a damp basement from leaks. Even when the home is without power, this basement will remain perfectly dry.
