Old Town, ME Basement Kept Dry With WaterGuard Piping
Challenge
A homeowner in Old Town, ME had been noticing a build-up of moisture on their basement floor. The water could potentially lead to damage of the property, so the homeowner needed something done about it pronto! To get this work done and to keep the basement safe from outside moisture, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
With a concrete foundation, this homeowner was still susceptible to water leaking in directly through the pores of the concrete. To put an end to these leaks and seal up the concrete for good, our installation crew began by digging a shallow trench into the perimeter of the basement floor. Within this trench they laid WaterGuard piping, burying it under a fresh layer of cement. Sealed beneath the surface of the floor, the WaterGuard will now capture any water trying to leak in through the concrete.
The water trapped within the WaterGuard is guided to the sump for removal. To take on the role of water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. With the SuperSump in place, the sump will no longer be unable to keep up with the amount of water entering the basement.
Outside the home, the water passes through two final key pieces. On the end of the line, the water exits through a LawnScape discharge point, where it drains away into the ground. Keeping the sump safe from an overflow, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the line. This piece sits just outside the home and has special holes built into it. These holes allow for water blocked by ice or debris to exit the line without causing a backup.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about water damage. The WaterGuard piping will surely keep this basement floor dry for many years to come!
