Cracks in Skowhegan, ME Basement Sealed Properly With FlexiSpan
Challenge
A homeowner in Skowhegan, ME had been having noticeable amounts of water leak in through cracks in his basement walls. With water leaking onto their basement floor, they were worried their home might be damaged by the moisture. To seal these cracks and put an end to the leaks, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The TC Hafford crew arrived at the home and began work immediately to seal the cracks. To successfully stop the flow of water from one of the cracks, we needed to use a FlexiSpan seal. Being on an open surface, this crack allowed for FlexiSpan to be used. The process started with the crack being brushed free of debris, allowing for the first layer of sealant to be applied to the inside of the crack. Next, a foam mat was laid over the top of the sealant. This mat gives the FlexiSpan a flexible nature, allowing it to contort to shifts in the shape of the crack. Finally, a second layer of sealant was applied over the top of the mat and the FlexiSpan was complete, sealing out any moisture from this crack.
The crew then began work on the second crack in the basement, which was running down a wall behind several wooden supports. To take care of this crack, the crew applied a preliminary layer of sealant over the crack. As this layer was applied, plugs were placed incrementally up the length of the crack. After this layer dried, the plugs were opened, and a Polyurethane compound was injected into the crack, with the plugs being resealed as the crack was filled. The Polyurethane will spread into every crevasse within the crack. This crack is now fully sealed!
With the two sealant structures in place, the cracks within this basement will now remain free of water for many years to come! This homeowner can now rest assured their home is safe from water damage.
