TripleSafe Pump Saves Topsham, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Topsham, ME had been having trouble with their basement sump. Water was still building up on the floor around the sump, it seemed to be unable to keep up with the amount of water. To remedy this, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
To put an end to the overflow problem, our installation crew began work on this basement by upgrading the current sump. We installed a TripleSafe sump pump system. This device contains three pumps. The first pump handles the majority of the water needing removal, while the secondary pump takes over if the first pump fails to handle all of the water for any reason. The second pump also allows for the primary to be fixed in the event it breaks. The third and final pump is a battery backup, for when the home loses power. All of the water from the TripleSafe is pumped out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
Following this discharge line outside, the water is carried far enough from the home to not cause any more problems and deposited onto the ground to drain away. There was still one problem though, if the line were to become blocked by ice or other debris, it could still lead to a backup and overflow in the sump. To prevent this, just as the line left the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe piece. The IceGuard has special holes built into it which do not affect normal water flow. If the water is blocked, however, it will be allowed out of the sides of the pipe.
This new system will not keep water off of this basement floor. Thanks to their new TripleSafe sump pump, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about a flooding basement.
