Damp Old Orchard Beach, ME Home Kept Dry With Proper Waterproofing

Challenge

A homeowner in Old Orchard Beach, ME had both a crawlspace and a basement which were taking on moisture. The problem was beginning to spread a musty smell throughout the home. Looking to put an end to this smell, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems.

Solution

Once the TC Hafford crew arrived, they began work first on the crawlspace. They began by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat will hold any moisture on the floor beneath itself, not allowing it to enter the air, while allowing the water to drain away through the floor over time. Next, the space was encapsulated with a CleanSpace liner. This liner is a thin sheet of plastic which covers all of the walls, as well as the floor of the crawlspace. The CleanSpace will completely lock out any outside moisture trying to enter this space, keeping it dry and healthy.

Moving to the basement, the next problem was a little more complicated. With water leaking in directly through the concrete foundation, we needed to pace a barrier inside the floor. We started by digging a trench around the perimeter of the floor. Within this trench we laid WaterGuard piping, burying it under a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard will take in the moisture as it passes through the foundation from now on. This water is directly through the piped to the existing sump in the basement to increase the efficiency of water removal.

With their new systems in place, this home should never again have a moisture problem. This homeowner can now live without a musty smell thanks to WaterGuard & CleanSpace.
