WaterGuard Fixture Protects Brewer, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Brewer, ME was having trouble with their sump in their basement. Even though the sump was supposed to be keeping the basement free of water, water was still accumulating on the floor surface. To put an end to this, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
nce the TC Hafford installation crew arrived, they began work right away digging a trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. Within this trench, we installed WaterGuard piping. With a door entering the basement, we installed a TrenchDrain connected to the WaterGuard to prevent water from sliding in under the door. While the rest of the piping was buried beneath a fresh layer of cement, the TrenchDrain was left resting directly level with the floor. The open grate across the top will capture any water flowing under the door. Within the floor, the WaterGuard piping captures any moisture leaking through the concrete foundation.
The water trapped by the WaterGuard is guided to the existing sump within the basement. This will ensure any water that would have pooled up on this basement floor will end up being forced out through the sump. On its way out, the water follows a PVC discharge line, which we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to outside the home. The IceGuard piece has special holes built into it which allow for any trapped water to escape. This protects the sump from an overflow if the pipe becomes blocked by ice or other debris.
This new basement system will protect this basement floor from flooding for many years to come. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, this floor will stay water-free for the foreseeable future.
