Damp Basement in Cape Elizabeth, ME Protected By WaterGuard
Challenge
With a concrete foundation in between the outside moisture and the interior of this Cape Elizabeth, ME home, there was little in the way to prevent any moisture from entering the basement. The pores in the concrete allow for outside moisture to leak in. Unable to stop it on their own, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the space waterproofed.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford crew arrived, they began right away by digging up the perimeter of the basement floor. Creating a shallow trench around the outside edge of the floor, the crew then laid 100 feet of WaterGuard piping around this perimeter. These pipes were then buried beneath a layer of cement, where they will now collect the water that was leaking in through the foundation. This water will no longer have a path to the interior of the basement floor.
The water within the WaterGuard is lead to the sump for removal. Because this basement was without a pump to handle water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump is capable of removing over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. The water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The discharge line leads the water away from the home where is drains away into the ground.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about a damp basement. Their concrete foundation is now protected from the outside moisture thanks to the WaterGuard piping.
