Proper Vapor Barrier Protects Falmouth, ME Crawlspace
Challenge
A moist crawlspace in Falmouth, ME was beginning to show signs of a mold problem. Wanting the problem dealt with before things got worse, the homeowner searched online for ways to get this done. After they found TC Hafford Basement Systems, they knew who to call. They called to set up an appointment and we sent out our crew.
Solution
Once the crew arrived, they began work on the crawlspace right away. They started by installing a SmartSump sump pump in the floor. This will take in any standing water from the floors surface and force it out of the home through a PVC discharge line. Over this, we began the vapor barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor. This mat will allow for water on the floor to continue to flow toward the sump without being able to enter the air.
With half of the vapor barrier in place, we were able to encapsulate the space entirely with a CleanSpace liner. The CleanSpace is a thin sheet of plastic which seals the interior of the crawlspace off from outside moisture. Now any moisture attempting to enter the space will exit through the SmartSump without reaching the atmosphere within the space. Outside the home, the crew made one final addition to the discharge line. An IceGuard pipe segment, which will protect the sump from an overflow. Special holes in the sides of the pipe allow for any blocked water to escape before backing up the line any further.
With their crawlspace waterproofed, this homeowner can rest assured their mold problem is a thing of the past. This vapor barrier is sure to keep this crawlspace water-free for many years to come!
