WaterGuard Piping Maintains Dry Gorham, ME Basement
Challenge
A homeowner in Gorham, ME was worried their basement would soon suffer from moisture problems. After noticing some leakage on the floor, they wanted the problem dealt with before it got worse. To have the leakage stopped, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
As soon as our crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin work right away waterproofing the concrete foundation. Due to the porous nature of concrete, we needed to put a barrier inside the floor. We began by digging a trench into the perimeter of the floor. Inside, we laid 96 feet of WaterGuard piping, sealing it in with a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard will capture the moisture that was traveling in through the floor. Here, the water then travels through the pipes to the sump for removal.
Moving on to the sump in the basement, our crew installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device holds three separate pumps within it. The primary pump is the lowest and will handle the majority of the water collected by the TripleSafe. The secondary pump will activate if the primary pump needs any assistance keeping up. This could also keep the water flowing from the home if the primary needed to be repaired for any reason. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This pump will ensure the basement remains dry even if the home loses power.
The water leaving the home through the TripleSafe exits through a PVC discharge line. Just outside the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to this line. The IceGuard has special holes built into the sides. The holes will allow for blocked water to escape, in the event of a blockage. This protects the TripleSafe from an overflow. Finally, the water exits the line through a LawnScape discharge point on the end. Here, the water is far enough from the home to no longer cause problems for the homeowner.
With their new complete basement system in place, this homeowner will never again need to worry about a damp basement! The WaterGuard will keep the surface of this basement floor dry for many years to come.
