WaterGuard Piping Saves Windham, ME Basement From Flooding
Challenge
A homeowner in Windham, ME was suffering from a severely leaking basement. The water was beginning to worry the homeowner. Fearing permanent water damage, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the space waterproofed for the future.
Solution
A concrete foundation is not completely water tight, with the pores throughout the slab allowing water to pass through. To put an end to the leaking, the TC Hafford crew began by digging a shallow trench into this basement floor, around the perimeter. Within this trench, they laid 120 feet of WaterGuard piping. After being sealed within the floor by a fresh layer of cement, these pipes will capture any moisture attempting to leak in through the foundation.
The water trapped inside the WaterGuard piping is guided to the sump within the basement floor. To help with the water removal process, our crew installed a SuperSump sump pump. This device takes in the collected water, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can handle up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This is more than enough power to keep this basement free of water.
Outside the home, the crew made two final additions to the discharge line. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe section added just where the line left the home. This segment has special holes built into it, which will not affect normal water flow. The holes protect the sump from a backup due to ice blockage, preventing an overflow. Finally, the line was ended with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits here, draining away into the ground far from the home.
With their new basement system installed properly, the homeowner will no longer need to fear water damage. This basement will remain dry for many years to come thanks to the WaterGuard piping.
