Saco, ME Basement Protected From Water With Full Basement System
Challenge
A couple in Saco, ME were struggling to keep their basement dry. The sump they had in the floor wasn’t keeping up with the amount of water leaking in through the foundation. Unable to stop this water on their own, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems to waterproof the space.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away. To start, a shallow trench was dug into the floor, around the perimeter. Because water can leak directly through the pores in concrete, we needed to create a barrier in between. We then laid WaterGuard pipes down within the floor, burying them beneath a fresh layer of cement. Underneath the surface, the pipes will capture any moisture leaking through, preventing it from reaching the surface. This water is then guided to the sump for removal.
To handle the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will force the water up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. To help keep the SuperSump operational in any weather, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This will enable the SuperSump to keep going for up to 11,000 gallons after the home loses power. This will ensure the floor remains dry in the most inclement weather.
Outside the home, we made two final additions. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment, with holes built into the sides. This segment keeps the sump safe from an overflow if the discharge line becomes blocked by ice or other debris. The end of the line was then capped with a LawnScape discharge point. Here, the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home. Draining into the ground this far away, the water will never be able to bother these homeowners again.
With their new basement system in place, these homeowners will never need to worry about a flooding basement again! Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, their basement floor will remain dry for many years into the future!
