Brunswick, ME Basement Kept Dry With WaterGuard
Challenge
A couple in Brunswick, ME was struggling with a moisture problem in their basement. The water had been coming in through an unknown location, and the homeowners couldn’t stop it. To finally have the water removed and their basement waterproofed, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
When the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home they were able to begin work right away. To keep this basement safe from water damage, we needed to prevent water from leaking in through the foundation itself. To achieve this, we dug out the perimeter of the floor. We then laid WaterGuard piping down within the floor, burying it under a fresh layer of cement. Within the floor, these pipes will take in the moisture that would have otherwise leaked into the basement. The water is then transported through the WaterGuard to the sump where it will be removed from the basement.
To handle the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will take the water from the WaterGuard and force it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump will ensure the space remains free of water with a pumping force of over 2,600 gallons of water per hour. To keep the sump pumping even when the home loses power, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This will give the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of pumping before requiring a charge.
With this system in place, the homeowners’ moisture problem is now a thing of the past. Their new sump system will keep this basement dry even in storms harsh enough to knock out the power.
