Rochester, NH Basement Protected From Moisture With WaterGuard
Challenge
A Rochester, NH homeowner was living with a damp basement. This dampness was causing a musty smell, and the homeowner was tired of living with this basement. To protect the space from outside moisture, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
As soon as the crew arrived they were able to begin work on the basement. Because the home was built on a concrete foundation, the first step in this waterproofing was to dig a trench into the basement floor. This trench ran around the perimeter. Inside this trench, we installed a WaterGuard piping system. Buried beneath a fresh layer of cement, these pipes function within the floor. The WaterGuard pipes will take in the moisture leaking in through the concrete, keeping it away from the surface. This trapped water is then guided through the pipes to the sump for removal.
To handle the water-removal, our crew installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device takes in the water from the WaterGuard, forcing it up and out of the home through one of its three pumps. The first pump handles the bulk off the water, while the secondary pump will activate if the primary fails for any reason. Having the secondary pump allows for the primary to be fixed with no down-time. The third and final pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This pump will keep the water flowing even when the home is without power.
The water leaving the home follows a PVC discharge line away. At the end of the line, the water exits through a LawnScape discharge point. This is where the water is released onto the ground, far enough from the home to not cause any more problems for the homeowner. To protect the TripleSafe from an overflow, we attached an IceGuard pipe segment to the discharge line just outside the home. This piece has holes built into it which will allow for trapped water to escape if the lower end of the line becomes blocked by ice or other debris.
With their complete basement system installed, a wet basement should never again be a problem for this homeowner. The WaterGuard piping will ensure this basement will remain dry for many years to come!
