WaterGuard Piping Protects North Waterford, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner in North Waterford, ME was having trouble keeping their basement water-free. With a concrete foundation, they were unsure how water was managing to leak in onto the surface of the floor. To have this moisture problem dealt with fast, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Concrete is not completely waterproof by nature, due to all the tiny holes and cracks formed in it when it sets. To keep the basement protected from the water leaking in through the foundation, our crew began by digging a trench around the perimeter of the floor. They then laid WaterGuard piping down within this trench, covering it over with a fresh layer of cement to seal it within the floor. These pipes work within the floor to capture the water leaking through, guiding it to the sump in the basement for removal.
With the floor moisture dealt with, there was still the issue of airborne moisture within this basement. This moisture could cause just as many problems as moisture on the ground. To deal with this, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the surrounding damp air, separate the moist air from the dry air, then output the dry air back into the basement and pass the water to the sump. Handling the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. The SuperSump will force the collected water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line where it will be carried far enough from the home to not cause any further problems.
Outside the home, our crew still have two final pieces to install before they were done. The first was an IceGuard pipe section attached to the discharge line just as it left the home. This piece protects the sump from an overflow by giving blocked water an escape route. The IceGuard has holes in the sides for when ice or other debris blocks the line. Finally, the end of the line was capped with a LawnScape discharge point. Here the water is released onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With a proper basement system in place, not only will this homeowner no longer need to fear water damage, but they can now utilize their basement however they want. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, this basement will remain dry for many years to come!
