Shawmut, ME Basement Kept Dry With WaterGuard Piping
Challenge
A homeowner in Shawmut, ME was having trouble keeping their basement free of water. Even though they had a sump in the floor, water still gathered on the surface. To put an end to this flooding, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they were able to begin working on the fix right away. The first order of business was to dig a shallow trench around the inside perimeter of the concrete floor. Because water can still leak in through concrete, we needed to place a barrier within the floor to stop the water before it reaches the surface. Inside the trench, we laid WaterGuard piping. Covering these pipes over with fresh cement, they will capture any water within the floor, and guide it safely to the sump without allowing any more water to gather on the surface.
With the increase in water concentration being directed to the current sump, this basement was going to need an upgrade to keep up. To achieve this, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor. This is where the water coming from the WaterGuard will be deposited. The SuperSump will force this water up and out of the basement through a PVC discharge line. Capable of moving over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, the SuperSump is more than able to keep up with the amount of water needing to be removed from this basement.
Outside the home, we made two final additions to the line before we were finished. The first was an IceGuard pipe segment added just as the line left the home. This piece will protect the SuperSump from an overflow. Special holes in the side of the IceGuard allow for trapped water to escape in the event of a blockage, stopping water from flowing back up into the home. Finally, the line was ended with a LawnScape discharge point where the water exits onto the lawn. Here, the water is far enough from the home where it is unable to flow back into the basement.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner no longer needs to worry about water gathering on their basement floor. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, they can now utilize their basement however they please.
