Damp Basement In North Vassalboro, ME Waterproofed With WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner in North Vassalboro, ME was experiencing problems with their basement taking on water. Even with a concrete foundation, water was still gathering on this basement floor. Unable to stop this moisture on their own, the homeowner needed professional help. To get this job done, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Starting work on the basement as soon as they arrived at the home, the installation crew began by digging out a shallow trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. Because concrete is not waterproof on its own, we were going to need to place a barrier between the outside and the inside of the foundation. Within this trench we installed WaterGuard piping, burying it beneath a fresh layer of cement. These pipes work beneath the surface, where they capture the water as it travels through the concrete. This water is then guided through the WaterGuard to the sump where it will be removed from the basement.
To increase the effectiveness of the sump present in this basement, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe holds three pumps within itself, each helping in its own way to maintain a dry floor. The first pump handles the bulk of the water, while the secondary pump will take over the bulk of the water if the primary fails for any reason. The third pump is a battery backup, which will activate if and when the home loses power, keeping the basement water-free in any weather. The water exiting through the TripleSafe follows a PVC discharge line outside.
The discharge line carries the water away from the home to where it will no longer be able to flow back to the home. At the end of the line, the water exits through a LawnScape discharge point. The basement is still susceptible to an overflowing sump, however, if ice or debris were to block this line. To prevent this, we attached an IceGuard pipe section onto the discharge line just outside the home. This pipe piece has special holes built into it which do not affect normal water flow but will allow for blocked water to escape the line.
With their new complete basement system in place, this homeowner will never again have a moisture problem in their basement. The WaterGuard piping system will ensure the concrete floor remains dry for many years to come!
