Damp Chebeague Island, ME Basement Waterproofed Properly With WaterGuard
Challenge
A couple in Chebeague Island, ME owned a basement which would always be damp. This dampness was beginning to cause problems, such as a bad smell. To have the space dried and kept that way, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once the installation crew arrived at the home, they got to work immediately. To start the waterproofing, they dug out a shallow trench around the perimeter of the concrete basement floor. Here, they inlayed WaterGuard piping, which will capture any moisture trying to enter the basement through the floor. This WaterGuard is buried beneath a fresh layer of cement, where it will guide the collected water to the sump for removal. The crew also installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to keep the air within the basement dry. The water pulled out of the atmosphere by this device will also be passed on to the sump for removal.
To help the sump keep up with all this moisture being collected and deposited into the sump, our crew installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. This will ensure this basement no longer holds an excess of water. The water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line and carried away. To keep the SuperSump going even when the home loses power, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This battery will give the sump an 11,000 gallons lifespan before needing another charge. This will keep the basement water-free even when the home is without power.
Outside the home, the crew made two final additions to the discharge line before they were done. The first of these was an IceGuard pipe piece. This section of piping sits just as the line leaves the home, and has special holes built into it. These holes will not affect water flowing away from the home but will prevent an overflow in the sump by allowing blocked water to escape. Finally, a LawnScape discharge point was added to the end of the line, where the water exits onto the ground a safe distance from the home.
With this new system in place, these homeowners will never need to worry about a damp basement again. The WaterGuard & SaniDry XP will make sure of that!
