WaterGuard Piping Protects Passadumkeag, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
A homeowner in Passadumkeag, ME owned a dirt basement which they wanted to use for keeping their belongings. The dirt, however, would allow for outside water to easily enter the space. Fearing water damage, the homeowner contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems to have the basement kept dry for the future.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began work on the basement right away. To give the space a level surface and a partial barrier, they poured a cement slab across the floor. This would allow the homeowner to utilize the space, while helping to keep out water. But because concrete isn’t perfectly water tight, they installed WaterGuard piping around the outer edge of this new floor, just beneath the surface. The WaterGuard will capture any moisture passing through the new floor and guide it to the sump for removal before it can reach the surface.
Because the WaterGuard will be collecting all of the water trying to enter the basement, this homeowner needed a pump to help keep the basement water-free. To keep up with the amount of water which would be collected, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will easily take care of the water removal needs, with enough power to move up to 2,650 gallons of water every hour. This water is forced up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line where it is carried away from the home and deposited onto the ground.
With their new floor, and a basement system in place, this homeowner can now use their basement however they please without needing to worry about water. The WaterGuard piping will ensure the floor surface remains dry for many years to come!
