Flooding Cambridge, ME Home Waterproofed Properly
Challenge
A homeowner in Cambridge, ME had been having trouble with water entering their home. This water would leak into both the crawlspace, as well as the basement. Building up in puddles, this water could begin to cause problems, such as mold growth or water damage. To have this problem put to rest, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they first began work on the crawlspace. They started by laying down a Drainage Matting across the dirt floor of the crawlspace. This mat has a slight space beneath itself, where any water can still flow through to find a place to drain back into the soil. The top of the mat, however, helps to keep the moisture from reaching the air to spread dampness. The space was then encapsulated with a CleanSpace liner. This is a plastic sheet which will completely cut the interior of the space off from outside moisture.
With the crawlspace done, the crew moved to the basement to waterproof that space as well. The basement in this home was surrounded by dirt, with no form of barrier in between the inside and the outside. To give the space a barrier, we poured a fresh slab of concrete over the floor. This slab will help to suppress the incoming water. Since concrete is not perfectly waterproof, we also installed a sump within this new floor. A SmartSump will now collect any water gathering on the surface of this floor, pumping it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
These new waterproofing products will be sure to keep these spaces dry for the future. This homeowner no longer needs to worry about problems like mold growth or water damage!
