Leaking Danforth, ME Basement Dried With WaterGuard
Challenge
A couple in Danforth, ME had been having basement trouble. Even though they had a concrete foundation, their home was still taking on water after any rainfall. This problem needed to be solved before the water caused any damage to the property. To get this done quickly, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
With a concrete foundation, it was no surprise this basement was still taking on water. Concrete is not completely waterproof on its own, and without further protection, will allow water to leak directly through. To prevent this, our crew dug out a trench and installed WaterGuard around the perimeter of the basement floor. This was then covered over with more cement to conceal it beneath the floor. The WaterGuard is special piping which captures the water beneath the floor, never allowing it to reach the surface. These pipes then guide the water to the sump where it is removed from the basement.
This basement did have a sump, but it did not have a pump. Without one, the current sump might be overwhelmed by the amount of water now entering it from the WaterGuard. To stay on top of this increased water flow, we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump can move over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. This water is channeled up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water away from the home.
Outside the home, our crew added two key pieces to the line before they were finished. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe segment. This piece has holes built into it which allow for any trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump if the line becomes blocked by ice. Finally, the line was ended with a LawnScape discharge point where the water exits onto the lawn. Here, the water is far enough from the home to drain away safely, never to bother this home again.
This basement system will now ensure a dry basement for these homeowners. The WaterGuard & SuperSump combination will be more than enough to hold back any rainwater trying to infiltrate this home.
