Detroit, ME Basement Completely Waterproofed With WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner in Detroit, ME was having some trouble with their concrete foundation. It was leaking water into their basement. This was a problem, because this water was damaging the belongings of the homeowner stored in the basement. To have this flooding stopped, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
The crew arrived at the home and began working on the foundation. Concrete may appear solid, but it is still susceptible to moisture leaking through. This was the cause of the flooding, and to put an end to this, we dug out a shallow trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. The new trench allowed us to install 144 feet of WaterGuard piping within the floor. Buried beneath a fresh layer of cement, the WaterGuard captures the moisture as it leaks up into the home. The water is captured before it ever reaches the surface and transported to the sump for removal.
Moving to the sump within the basement, the crew installed a SuperSump sump pump. This pump will take in the water from the WaterGuard, forcing it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can move up to 2,650 gallons of water each hour. To keep this pump running around the clock, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This battery gives the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of life before requiring a charge.
The discharge line leaving the home could still potentially cause a failure in the system. If ice clogged the lower end of the line, water could backup and overflow the sump. To prevent this, we installed an IceGuard pipe segment just as the line left the home. This piece has holes built into it which do not affect normal water flow. But should a clog occur, the trapped water is able to escape the line. Finally, the exiting water leaves the line through a LawnScape discharge point. Here, the water is too far from the home to flow back and cause any more problems.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to worry about moisture problems! This basement is now completely free of water thanks to the WaterGuard piping system.
