Dirt Basement In Machiasport, ME Waterproofed With WaterGuard
Challenge
A homeowner in Machiasport, ME had a dirt basement which was usually damp. The space had no way to keep out water, and this was a problem. The dampness was beginning to emanate a smell throughout the home, which the homeowner was severely disturbed by. To have the space waterproofed properly, they contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived, they began work right away. The first order of business was to give the basement a proper floor. They got to work pouring a fresh slab of concrete into the basement, on top of the dirt. This slab, however, was special. While pouring it, our crew installed WaterGuard piping around the outer edge. These pipes are buried within the concrete and will capture any water trying to leak into the basement in the future. This traps the water and guides it directly to the sump for removal.
After the slab was poured and the WaterGuard was in place, we created a sump to house a pump for water removal. Our crew installed a SmartSump sump pump here to take care of this. The SmartSump is fed water from the WaterGuard, forcing this water up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. This line carries the water out through the side of the home, and far enough away to be safely deposited onto the ground. Here, the water will drain away into the soil, never again to bother this homeowner.
Now this homeowner can rest assured their moisture problem is a thing of the past. They can even utilize their basement now without fear of water damage.
