Fayette, ME Basement Kept Dry With WaterGuard Piping
Challenge
A homeowner in Fayette, ME owned a damp basement which they wanted to use for storage. The dampness, however, was preventing them from using the space. Fearing water damage, the homeowner needed their basement waterproofed before-hand. To get the job done right, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they got to work right away. Since the water from the surrounding soil was leaking in directly through the concrete foundation, there was one simple solution to keep this space water-free. We began by digging out a trench in the floor around the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard piping was then laid into this trench, where it was covered over with a fresh layer of cement. Within the floor, these pipes will capture any moisture attempting to leak in and guide it to the sump for removal. This will prevent any further moisture build-up on and across this basement floor.
Within the sump in this basement we installed a SuperSump sump pump. This device will take in the water from the WaterGuard and force it up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can handle over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, more than enough power to keep this basement free of moisture. To ensure the SuperSump stays active in any weather, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This will keep the SuperSump pumping for up to 11,000 gallons before requiring a charge.
Following the discharge line outside, we made two key additions before we were finish with this project. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe section added just as the pipes leave the home. This piece has holes built into it which will not affect normal water flow but will allow trapped water to escape. This will prevent an overflow in the sump by releasing water blocked by ice or other debris. The water then exits the end of the line through a LawnScape discharge point.
Now this homeowner can utilize their space for storage without worrying about water damage. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping this basement will remain dry for years to come.
