WaterGuard Piping Protects Cherryfield, ME Basement From Water Damage
Challenge
Two homeowners in Cherryfield, ME were having trouble with water leaking into their basement. Not knowing the source of the moisture, or how to stop it, the homeowners were at a loss. To get the problem taken care of, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, it was obvious to our crew what the problem was and how we would need to fix it. To begin work on the basement, our crew dug out a shallow trench around the perimeter of the floor. They then installed WaterGuard piping within this trench and buried it beneath a fresh layer of cement. The WaterGuard piping will take in any moisture trying to enter through the foundation now and guide it to the sump for removal. We also installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to take in any moisture from the atmosphere within the space and deposit into the sump as well.
Taking on the responsibility of water removal, we installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device contains three pumps, each serving a special function. The first, primary pump takes on the bulk of the water. The second pump will only activate if and when the primary fails for any reason. This pump will then take over the water removal. Finally, the third pump is a battery backup pump for when the home is without power, maintaining a dry basement even in the worst weather conditions. The water is pushed up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line.
Outside the home, we attached an IceGuard pipe section to the discharge line. This piece of pipe has special holes built into it which do not affect normal water flow but will allow any trapped water to escape. This will prevent an overflow in the sump in the event of a blockage in the discharge line. The water will then exit through a LawnScape discharge point at the end of the line. Here, the water will drain away into the ground, a safe distance from the home.
These homeowners’ will no longer need to suffer from a damp basement. Thanks to the WaterGuard piping, their basement will remain dry for many years to come!
