Leaking Basement in Strong, ME Sealed Properly With FlexiSpan
Challenge
A couple in Strong, ME had a concrete foundation surrounding their basement. These concrete walls, however, had two cracks in them. These cracks were leaking water into the basement of the home, which would gather on the floor. Unable to stop the water from entering, the homeowners called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get them sealed.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they inspected the two cracks to find the best solution for the problem. For the first crack, we installed FlexiSpan, a three-layer structure to hold out water. We started by scraping the crack free of debris with a coarse brush, and then filling the crack with an initial coat of sealant. A foam mat was then placed over the sealant, giving the FlexiSpan its flexible nature. Finally, a second layer of sealant was applied over the top of the mat. This completed the FlexiSpan, which will lock out moisture, while being flexible enough to shift with any changes in the shape of the crack.
Moving on to the other crack, a different sealing method was necessary due to the location of the crack. Because it was in a hard to reach spot, we used a Polyurethane injection. To achieve this, we laid a primary coat of sealant over the top of the crack, placing a plug in this sealant as we went. Once this sealant dried, the ends of the plugs were removed, and Polyurethane was injected into the crack. This fills the crack, and hardens in place, forming a perfect seal to keep out moisture. After the injections were complete, the plugs were replaced.
With these two cracks sealed, no more moisture will be building up on this basement floor. These homeowners will no longer need to be concerned with potential water damage in their basement.
