WaterGuard Piping Keeps Brownville, ME Basement Dry
Challenge
A homeowner in Brownville, ME reached out to TC Hafford Basement Systems with a problem. Their basement would regularly take on water after any rainfall. This water was entering directly through the concrete foundation, which was not something the homeowner was equipped to deal with. We dispatched a crew and got to work!
Solution
Upon arriving at the home, the crew began work right away by digging out a shallow trench in the floor of the basement. This trench ran around the perimeter of the floor. We then installed 110 feet of WaterGuard piping in this trench, burying it under a fresh layer of cement. Within the floor, the WaterGuard pipes will now take in any moisture traveling in through the foundation. This trapped water will then follow the WaterGuard to the sump for removal from the basement.
To handle the removal process, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the floor of this basement. The WaterGuard deposits any collected water here, where it is pumped up and out of the home through a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump can take on up over 2,600 gallons of water every hour, which is plenty of power to keep this basement floor dry. Also feeding into the SuperSump, we installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier. This device will take in the moisture from the air in the basement, passing the water to the sump and circulating the dry air back into the space.
Finally, outside the home, we made two additions to the discharge line. The first was an IceGuard pipe section added just outside the home. This piece has holes built into it which allow for trapped water to escape. This prevents an overflow in the sump in the event of a blockage lower down the discharge line. The water will finally exits through the LawnScape discharge point on the end of the line. Here, the water will drain away into the ground, never be able to reach the home again.
With this basement system in place, the homeowner will no longer have troubles with moisture gathering in their basement. They can now utilize the space however they please without needing to fear water damage or mold growth.
