WaterGuard Piping Protects Porter, ME Basement From Leaks
Challenge
A basement in Porter, ME had been taking on water regularly after any rainfall. This was a problem for the homeowner because any moisture could lead to water damage to the property. The water was entering the basement directly through the concrete foundation. To put an end to their fears, they called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they began work right away on the basement. To keep out water, they began by digging out a shallow trench around the perimeter of the basement floor. This is where they then installed a WaterGuard piping system. These pipes were covered over with a fresh layer of cement. The pipes work beneath the floor, capturing any water trying to leak into the basement through the foundation. The trapped water is then guided to the sump for removal.
Within the sump, our crew installed a TripleSafe sump pump. This device contains three individual pumps, each serving its own purpose. The first pump is the primary pump, handling the majority of the water. The secondary pump only activates if and when the primary pump fails for any reason; Taking over for the primary to keep the water out.
Finally, the third pump is a battery-operated backup pump. This pump will ensure the basement remains water-free even when the home is without power. Any water exiting the home leaves through a PVC discharge line.
Following this line outside, we made two key additions to keep the system running smoothly. The first addition was an IceGuard pipe piece. This piece has special holes built into it. These holes, while leaving normal water flow unaffected, will allow any trapped water to escape. This keeps the sump from overflowing if the discharge line becomes blocked by ice or other debris. Finally, we ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits onto the ground here. Now this water will be too far from the home to cause any more problems.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner can utilize their basement without fear of water damage. The WaterGuard piping will keep this basement dry for many years to come!
