WaterGuard Piping Protects Charleston, ME Basement From Water damage
Challenge
A homeowner in Charleston, ME had a leaky basement which would take on water after rainfall. This was a problem for the homeowner and they searched for a way to stop the leaks. Unable to put an end to the problem on their own, this homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems to get the job done.
Solution
Once the TC Hafford installation crew arrived at the home, they got right to work. The foundation of the home had been allowing the water from the surrounding soil in directly through the concrete. The porous nature of concrete makes it susceptible to leaks. To put an end to the leaking we dug out a shallow trench around the inside perimeter of the basement floor. This created a space to install our WaterGuard piping. These pipes are buried under a fresh layer of cement, where it acts within the floor. They will capture any water traversing the foundation and transport it to the sump for removal.
Next, to handle the water removal, we installed a SuperSump sump pump in the sump of the basement. This device will take the water from the WaterGuard and force it up and out of the home though a PVC discharge line. The SuperSump will be able to deal with any amount of rainfall, capable of moving over 2,600 gallons of water every hour. To keep this pump pumping, we attached an UltraSump backup battery. This battery will give the SuperSump an extra 11,000 gallons worth of charge if the power in the home were to go out. This will ensure the space remains dry no matter the weather.
Outside the home, we made two adjustments to the discharge line to help the systems maintain a dry basement. The first was an IceGuard pipe piece. This piece has holes built into it, which allows trapped water to escape the line. This prevents an overflow in the sump in the event of a blockage in the line. Finally, we ended the line with a LawnScape discharge point. The water exits here onto the ground a safe distance from home. This moisture will never again bother this homeowner.
With their new basement system in place, this homeowner can rest assured no water damage will affect their basement. The WaterGuard piping and SuperSump combination will keep this floor dry for many years to come!
