Friendship, ME Basement & Crawlspace Waterproofed The Right Way
Challenge
A homeowner in Friendship, ME had been suffering from damp conditions beneath their home for years. The moisture would create a smell which would propagate throughout the home. This was a problem within both the crawlspace and basement of the home and was not something the homeowner could handle on their own. To have the spaces waterproofed properly, the homeowner called TC Hafford Basement Systems.
Solution
Once our crew arrived at the home, they elected to begin work with the crawlspace. This space had no barrier between the interior and the surrounding soil. This was an easy entry point for water and could be kept dry with a proper vapor barrier. We began the installation of this barrier by laying a Drainage Matting across the floor of the crawlspace. This is an initial layer of protection which will prevent the water beneath itself from entering the air of the space, while giving the water room to drain away. We then completed the vapor barrier by encapsulating the space with a CleanSpace liner.
Moving on to the damp basement, we began by digging a shallow trench around the perimeter of the concrete floor. Within this trench, we installed our WaterGuard piping. After the pipes are in place, we covered them over with a fresh layer of cement. This conceals the pipes without hindering functionality. The WaterGuard will capture any water leaking in through the concrete, guiding the trapped water to the sump for removal. Finally, to keep the air dry within the basement, we installed a SaniDry CX dehumidifier. This device will take the moisture out of the air and pass it to the sump just like the WaterGuard. Now any water that would have collected within the basement will be removed instead.
With a new basement system in place, this homeowner will no longer need to suffer from a musty smell in their home. The WaterGuard piping and CleanSpace barrier are sure to keep the basement and crawlspace dry for many years to come!
